Q38 / 118 · NTA Abhyas (NEET) 2020 · Chemistry · States of Matter

If 200mL of He at 0.66 atm and 400mL of O2 at 0.52 atm pressure are raised in 400 mL vessel at 20°C then find the  partial pressure of He and O2?

  • A
    0.33 and 0.55
  • Correct answer
    B
    0.33 and 0.52
  • C
    0.38 and 0.52
  • D
    0.25 and 0.45

Solution

At 293K, 200mL He is exhibiting a pressure of 0.66 atm.

It occupies 400 mL vessel. Here its partial pressure is reduced to half of its initial pressure.
∴PHe in the mixture =0.33 atm
As 400mLO2 at 293K with a
pressure of 0.52 atm occupies 400 mL volume at 293K, hence its partial pressure its not altered will exhibit 0.52 atm.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
