Identify the compound which gives $\mathrm{CO}_2$ more readily on heating
- A$\mathrm{CaCO}_3$
- B$\mathrm{Na}_2 \mathrm{CO}_3$
- C$\mathrm{NaHCO}_3$
- Correct answerD$\mathrm{Li}_2 \mathrm{CO}_3$
Solution
Lithium carbonate is not so stable so it will decomposed more readily on heating. Lithium being very small in size polarises a larger $\mathrm{CO}_3^{-2}$ ion leading to the formation of more stable $\mathrm{Li}_2 \mathrm{O}$ and $\mathrm{CO}_2$.
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
