Given the ratio of kinetic energy of electron in two orbitals is $16: 9$. Calculate the ratio of wavelength of electron waves?
- A4 : 3
- B9 : 16
- Correct answerC3 : 4
- D16 : 9
Solution
From de-Broglie's equation,
$\lambda=\frac{h}{m v}=\frac{h}{\sqrt{2 m \times \mathrm{KE}}}$
$\Rightarrow$ For an electrons, $\lambda \propto \frac{1}{\sqrt{\mathrm{KE}}} \Rightarrow \frac{\lambda_{16}}{\lambda_9}=\sqrt{\frac{9}{16}}=3: 4$
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
