Q73 / 90 · JEE Main 2024 (09 Apr Shift 1) · Physics
Given below are two statements :
Statement (I) : When an object is placed at the centre of curvature of a concave lens, image is formed at the centre of curvature of the lens on the other side.
Statement (II) : Concave lens always forms a virtual and erect image.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :
- ABoth Statement I and Statement II are true
- BBoth Statement I and Statement II are false
- Correct answerCStatement I is true but Statement II is false
- DStatement I is false but Statement II is true
Solution
$\begin{aligned} & \frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}-\frac{1}{\mathrm{u}}=\frac{1}{\mathrm{f}} \\ & \frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}-\frac{1}{-2 \mathrm{f}}=\frac{1}{-\mathrm{f}} \\ & \Rightarrow \frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}=\frac{-1}{2 \mathrm{f}} \Rightarrow \mathrm{v}=-2 \mathrm{f} \\ & \frac{1}{\mathrm{v}}=\frac{1}{\mathrm{u}}+\frac{1}{\mathrm{f}} \Rightarrow \text { Virtual image of Real object. }\end{aligned}$
In statement II, it is not mentioned that object is real or virtual hence Statement II is false.
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
