Q33 / 90 · JEE Main 2019 (12 Apr Shift 2) · Mathematics

For an initial screening of an admission test, a candidate is given fifty problems to solve. If the probability that the candidate can solve any problem is 45, then the probability that he is unable to solve less than two problems is

  • A
    20151549
  • B
    164251548
  • C
    316254548
  • Correct answer
    D
    5454549

Solution

Let, X=The number of questions, student are unable to solve.
p=P  (the student answers a question correctly) =45
⇒ q=1-p=15 (probability that the student does not answer a question correctly)
Also, n=50 (Total number of question)
Hence, required probability:
P(X<2)
 =PX=0+PX=1
= 50C0 4550+ 50C1454915
=545 4549

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
