Q28 / 160 · AP EAMCET 2020 (23 Sep Shift 1) · Chemistry

For a first order reaction A5→5B2, the concentrations vs time plot is as shown. The half-life of the reaction is

Figure

  • A
    120 minutes
  • B
    109.75 minutes
  • C

    112.5 minutes

  • Correct answer
    D
    114 minutes

Solution

The half-life of a reaction is the time required for the reactant concentration to decrease to one-half its initial value. The half-life of a first-order reaction is a constant that is related to the rate constant for the reaction: t12 = 0.693/k.

k=2.303tlogaa-x

                       A5→5B2initial:               a          0at time=t        a-x     5x

a=6x

k=2.30330log6x5x=0.006 min-1

t1/2=0.6930.006≃114 min

Note: In the question paper 140 minutes given as the 4th option. but answer is 114 minutes.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
