Q49 / 108 · NTA Abhyas (JEE Main) 2020 · Mathematics · Complex Number

For a complex number z, the equation z2+p+iqz+r+is=0 has a real root (where p,q,r,s are non-zero real numbers and i2=-1), then

  • A
    pqr=r2+p2s
  • B
    prs=q2+r2p
  • C
    qrs=p2+s2q
  • Correct answer
    D
    pqs=s2+q2r

Solution

Since, the equation has a real root
∴ z=x+iy=x
⇒x2+p+iqx+r+is=0
∴x2+px+r=0 and qx+s=0
Putting x=-sq in the first equation, we get,
pqs=s2+q2r which is the required condition.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
