Excess of silver nitrate solution is added to $100 \mathrm{~mL}$ of $0.01 \mathrm{M}$ pentaaqua chloro chromium (III) chloride solution. The mass of silver chloride obtained in grams is [Atomic mass of silver is 108].

  • Correct answer
    A
    $287 \times 10^{-3}$
  • B
    $143.5 \times 10^{-3}$
  • C
    $143.5 \times 10^{-2}$
  • D
    $287 \times 10^{-2}$

Solution

The reagent is $\left[\mathrm{Cr}\left(\mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}\right)_{5} \mathrm{Cl}^{2} \mathrm{Cl}_{2}\right.$ No. of moles of $\mathrm{Cl}^{-}$ion present $$ \begin{aligned} &=\frac{2 \times 100 \times 0.01}{1000} \\ &=0.002 \\ \therefore \quad \text { Mass of } \mathrm{AgCl} &=0.002 \times 143.5 \\ &=0.287 \\ &=287 \times 10^{3} \mathrm{~g} \end{aligned} $$

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
