Consider the lines L1≡4x+5y-6=0, L2≡2x+3y-4=0, L3≡3x-y+2=0. If the line L1=0 intersects the lines L2=0 and L3=0 at the points A and B respectively, then the combined equation of OA and OB is

  • Correct answer
    A
    26x2+17xy+2y2=0
  • B
    x2-2xy+y2=0
  • C
    3x2+17xy+2y2=0
  • D
    26x2+2xy+17y2=0

Solution

We have straight linesL1≡4x+5y-6=0   ...1, L2≡2x+3y-4=0   ....2

L3≡3x-y+2=0  ...3

As given, the line L1=0 intersects the lines L2=0 and L3=0 at the points A and B respectively,

Solving 1 and 2

we get point A-1, 2

Solving 1 and 3

we get point B-419, 2619

Hence, the equation of line OA:

Passing through origin and point A.

y-0x-0=2-0-1-0 ⇒ 2x+y=0

Similarly, the equation of line OB

y-0x-0=-419-02619-0 ⇒ 13x+2y=0

So, the equation of pair of straight line passing through A and B whose point of intersection is origin, is

2x+y13x+2y=0⇒26x2+17xy+2y2=0

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
