Q92 / 180 · AIIMS 2008 · Physics

Assertion : When the velocity of projection of a body is made \(n\) times, its time of flight becomes \(n\) times. Reason : Range of projectile does not depend on the initial velocity of a body.

  • A
If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion
  • B
If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion
  • Correct answer
    C
If assertion is true but reason is false
  • D
If both assertion and reason are false.

Solution

As time of flight, $T=\frac{2 u \sin \theta}{g} \quad \therefore T^{\prime}=\frac{2(n u) \sin \theta}{g}=n T$ But range $R=\frac{u^2 \sin 2 \theta}{g} \therefore R^{\prime}=\frac{n^2 u^2 \sin 2 \theta}{g}=n^2 R$.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
