Assertion : Gastrin is required for the process of digestion in humans. Reason : Gastrin induces $\mathrm{HCl}$ production and pepsinogen.

  • Correct answer
    A
If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
  • B
If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
  • C
If assertion is true but reason is false.
  • D
If both assertion and reason are false.

Solution

Food or mechanical stimulation in the stomach activates cells of the antral mucosa to liberate a hormone gastrin that passes into the blood and stimulates parietal cells of stomach to secrete $\mathrm{HCl}$ and to a lesser extent so called chief cells to secrete pepsinogen.

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
