Q30 / 90 · JEE Main 2023 (12 Apr Shift 1) · Chemistry

An analyst wants to convert 1 L HCl of pH=1 to a solution of HCl of pH=2. The volume of water needed to do this dilution is _____ mL. (Nearest integer)

Correct answer: 9000

Solution

The concentration of H+ or say HCl in both the given solution is 10–1 and 10–2 mole L–1 respectively.

For the given amount of HCl the concentration depends over dilution hence

M1V1=M2V2M1M2=V2V1

10-110-2=V21L

V2=10 L=10000 mL

∆V=10000-1000 mL=9000 mL

Hence, the correct answer is 9000.
