Q14 / 126 · NTA Abhyas (NEET) 2020 · Physics · Motion In Two Dimensions

An aeroplane is flying horizontally with a velocity of 216 km h-1 and at a height of 1960 m. When it is vertically above a point A on the ground, a bomb is released from it. The bomb strikes the ground at point B. The distance AB is (ignoring air resistance) (given g=9.8 m s-2)

  • Correct answer
    A
    1200 m
  • B
    0.33 km
  • C
    3.33 km
  • D
    33 km

Solution

Horizontal velocity of aeroplane, in m/s

u=216 ×100060 ×100=60 m s-1

Time of flight, T=2hg=2 ×19609.8=20 s

Horizontal range, AB=uT

=60 ×20=1200 m

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
