A vector a→ of length 2 units is making an angle 60° with each of the X-axis and Y-axis. If another vector b→ of length 2 units is making an angle 45° with each of the Y-axis and Z-axis, then a→×b→=

  • Correct answer
    A
    (1-2)i^-j^+k^
  • B
    i^-2j^+k^
  • C
    2i^-j^+2k^
  • D
    i^-2j^+(1-2)k^

Solution

Let, a→ makes an angle θ with Z-axis and b→ makes an angle ϕ from X-axis.

Apply cos260°+cos260°+cos2θ=1 & cos2ϕ+cos245°+cos245°=1

⇒cosθ=±12 & cosϕ=0

So, a→=2cos60∘i^+2cos60∘j^+2cosθk^ and b→=2cosϕi^+2cos45∘j^+2cos45∘k^

⇒a→=i^+j^±2k^ and b→=j^+k^

Now, a→×b→=i^j^k^11±2011

⇒a→×b→=1±2i^-j^+k^

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
