Q101 / 180 · NEET 2019 (All India) · Physics

A soap bubble having radius of 1 mm is blown from a detergent solution having a surface tension of 2.5×10-2 N m-1. The pressure inside the bubble equals at a point Z0 below the free surface of water in a container. Taking g=10 m s-2, density of water =103 kg m-3, the value of Z0 is

  • A
    100 cm
  • B
    10 cm
  • Correct answer
    C
    1 cm
  • D
    0.5 cm

Solution

Pressure inside soap bubble is given by, ∆P=4TR
Pressure below water surface at depth Z0 is given by, ∆P=ρgZ0
According to question,
⇒4TR=ρgZ0
⇒Z0=4Tρg=4×2.5×10-2103×10×10-3
⇒Z0=1100 m
⇒Z0=1 cm

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'C'.
