Q45 / 214 · NTA Abhyas (NEET) 2020 · Physics · Oscillations

A pendulum has time period T for small oscillations. An obstacle P is situated below the point of suspension O at a distance 3l4. The pendulum is released from rest. Throughout the motion the moving string makes small angles with vertical. Time after which the pendulum returns back to its initial position is -

Figure

  • A
    T
  • Correct answer
    B
    3T/4
  • C
    3T/5
  • D
    4T/5

Solution

first half oscillation is covered with length l and second half with length 3l4 therefore total time can be measured by

t=T12+T22

T1=2π1g=T

T2=2π1/4g=T2

Putting value we get t=3T4

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'B'.
