A line  l⁡  passing through the origin is perpendicular to the lines
l⁡ 1  :  3 + t i ^ + - 1 +2 t j ^ + 4 + 2 t k ^ ,  - ∞ < t < ∞
l⁡ 2  :  3 + 2 s i ^ + 3 + 2 s j ^ + 2 + s k ^ ,  - ∞ < s < ∞
Then, the coordinate(s) of the point(s) on l⁡ 2  at a distance of 1 7  from the point of intersection of l⁡  and l⁡ 1  is (are)

  • A
    7 3 ,  7 3 ,  5 3
  • Correct answer
    B
    - 1 ,  - 1 ,  0
  • C
    1 , 1 , 1
  • Correct answer
    D
    7 9 , 7 9 , 8 9

Solution

Given
l⁡ 1  :  3 + t i ^ + - 1 +2 t j ^ + 4 + 2 t k ^ ,  - ∞ < t < ∞
l⁡ 2  :  3 + 2 s i ^ + 3 + 2 s j ^ + 2 + s k ^ ,  - ∞ < s < ∞
Direction ratios of line l1 are 1,2,2 and line l2 are 2,2,1

Let equation of line l is
l : x-0a=y-0b=z-0c=k
This line l is perpendicular to given line l1 and l2.
Hence a+2b+2c=0  ..i l⊥l1
2a+2b+c=0  ..ii  l⊥l2

Using equation i & ii
a - 2 = b 3 = c - 2
Figure
Hence equation of l is x-2=y3=z-2=k1↓for l1, k2↓for l2
Now A - 2 k 1 ,  3 k 1 ,  - 2 k 1 B - 2 k 2 ,  3 k 2 ,  - 2 k 2
- 2 k 1 i ^ + 3 k 1 j ^ - 2 k 1 k ^ = 3 + t i ^ + - 1 + 2 t j ^ + 4 + 2 t k ^
3+t=-2k1…iii-1+2t=3k1…iv4+2t=-2k1…v
Using equation iv & v  - 5 = 5 k 1 ⇒ k 1 = - 1 ⇒ A 2 , - 3 , 2
Let any point on l23+2S, 3+2S, 2+S  ....vi
According to question  1 + 2 S 2 + 6 + 2 S 2 + S 2 = 1 7
⇒9S2+28S+37=17
⇒9S2+28S+20=0
⇒9S2+18S+10S+20=0
⇒9SS+2+10S+2=0
⇒S=-2,-10/9
Using equation vi

The required points are -1,-1,0 & 79,79,89

Hence, the correct answer is options: 'B', 'D'.
