Q153 / 160 · WBJEE 2012 · Physics
A body when fully immersed in a liquid of specific gravity 1.2 weighs 44 gwt. The same body when fully immersed in water weighs 50 gwt. The mass of the body is
- A36 \mathrm{g}$
- B48 \mathrm{g}$
- C64 \mathrm{g}$
- Correct answerD$80 \mathrm{g}$
Solution
Balancing equation
$$
W=m g-V \rho g
$$
Hence,
$$
\begin{array}{l}
44=m-1.2 \mathrm{V} \\
50=m-V
\end{array}
$$
On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii) we get
$$
m=80 \mathrm{g}
$$
Hence, the correct answer is option: 'D'.
