Q30 / 73 · NTA Abhyas (JEE Main) 2020 · Chemistry · Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

2.76 g of silver carbonate on being strongly heated yields a residue weighing

  • Correct answer
    A
    2.16 g
  • B
    2.48 g
  • C
    2.32 g
  • D
    2.64 g

Solution

Ag2CO32.76→ΔAg2O+CO2→Δ2Ag+12O2residue

Note: Ag2O is thermally unstable and decompose on heating liberating oxygen.

Molecular weight of Ag2CO3=108×2+12+16×3=276g

So 276 g of Ag2CO3 on heating gives residue

=2×108=216g of Ag

So 2.76 of Ag2CO3 on heating gives =216276×2.76

=2.16g of Ag

Hence, the correct answer is option: 'A'.
